I was at home the other day and my sister came running down the stairs saying she needed an egg.
"An egg?" I said, why an earth would she need an egg?
When I confronted her about her odd request she explained to me that she was going to make a face mask with an egg as she had read that egg is good for skin care and can help with acne. She clearly thought it was a 'cracking' idea!
I was sure she was right but I thought that I would look into it and see if it was really true.
Sure enough I found article upon article of how egg can be used as a face mask or mixed with other ingredients to create a facial scrub. Egg apparently can act as a mild astringent and also dries on the skin helping to clean the surface by lifting dirt and debris from the pores and absorbing the extra oils that sit on the skin's surface.
I then found a quick homemade face mask recipe.
Makes 1 application
Juice from 1/2 a lemon (strained)
1 egg white
> Beat together the egg white and lemon juice for 3 minutes.
> Apply directly to your face, avoiding the eyes.
> Leave on for 30 minutes.
> Rinse off with warm water.
The Daily Green
I am yet to try it as I am still in the mode that egg is purely for my breakfast but we will see maybe one day I will 'cluck' up the courage to try it.
